YETI 3000X IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE & FIRMWARE UPDATE

Goal Zero, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is voluntarily recalling the Yeti 3000X Portable Power Station. The Power Stations may overheat, posing a risk of serious burn injury and fire hazard. No injuries have been reported as a result of this fault.

Consumers should immediately stop using the power stations and install the YETI 3000X firmware update in the app or contact Goal Zero if support is needed to install a free repair in the form of a firmware update.


The firmware update is the recall remedy and does not require returning the product to the original place of purchase - whether this be online or a retail location.

What You Need To Do

STEP 1: Verify the model of your Goal Zero Power station.

The Yeti 3000X Portable Power Station was sold at Costco.com, REI, Backcountry.com and other stores nationwide, and online at goalzero.com from May 2020 through August 2025.

You can verify your model in the following ways:

  1. The name YETI 3000X appears on the front bar of the cart
  2. The name YETI 3000X appears on the bottom front of the power station
  3. The product name and serial number appear on the nameplate located on the underside of the power station’s lid.

Update Firmware

If you are not currently using the Goal Zero app, download it for free from the Apple or Google Play store. Existing app users with notifications turned on will receive a push alert that a firmware update is available.

Open the Goal Zero app and ensure you are connected to wi-fi. Install the firmware update by tapping the banner in your app or by going to Settings>Firmware Update.

A firmware progress bar will be shown in the app to indicate that the firmware installation process has begun.

You can confirm the update is in progress by referring to the display on your Yeti 3000X. You will see upd on your display.

Once the update is complete, the app will show that update progress is complete and will indicate the updated version in the settings page (version 1.9.5).

If you have attempted to update your firmware by following the steps above and have been unsuccessful, fill out our customer support form and we will contact you directly with troubleshooting steps.

Is there a Goal Zero Yeti 3000X recall?

Yes there is a voluntary recall of the Yeti 3000X Power Station but you do not need to return your unit. You only need to follow the steps above to download and install the firmware update.

How do I know if my unit is impacted?

This update applies to ALL 120V Yeti 3000X power stations. To confirm your model, refer to the name printed on the underside of the lid or the product label.

Can I use a hotspot to connect to my Yeti 3000X and update the firmware?

We recommend a Wi-Fi connection to update and install the new firmware.

My unit appears to be fine - can I keep using it as is?

No. Stop using your unit and install the firmware update immediately. Once you have installed the firmware update, your Yeti 3000X is ready to resume normal operations.
