Hiking is a popular hobby or pastime for many outdoor enthusiasts. It usually doesn’t require much equipment or prep and is very enjoyable. However, there are several hikes you want to avoid if you’re looking for a leisurely stroll. These are the most physically and mentally challenging hikes that could turn deadly with one wrong step.
5) ANGELS LANDING, ZION CANYON, UTAH
This may be one of the greatest day-long adventure hikes in the world. Don’t be fooled by the short distance! The trail leads you up 21 switchbacks known as ‘Walters Wiggles’ to a beautiful viewpoint from which you travel the remaining half mile. This is where things get interesting. You finish off the trail with the help of the safety chain attached to a 2 foot wide path. Unforgettable!
4) HALF DOME, YOSEMITE, CALIFORNIA
Half Dome is the signature landmark of Yosemite National Park. You can enjoy an astonishing view after the strenuous 11 mile hike and climb to the top of the Dome. This is a hike anyone can accomplish if they have three things; 1.gloves 2.good boots and 3. motivation. It will take all day to complete but the feeling of accomplishment accompanied by an incredible view is well worth it.
3) DEVILS PATH, CATSKILL, NEW YORK
The appropriately named 27 mile hike in the beautiful woodlands of New York, is only achievable if you are prepared physically and have all the right gear. The trail descends 6 major peaks and adds up to 14,000 vertical feet. Expect to spend 3-5 days completing this treacherous up & down hike.
2) EL CAMINITO DEL REY (THE KING’S PATHWAY) SPAIN
This one’s for the thrill seekers.The 3’ 3” wide walkway was built in 1905 and is currently in a very deteriorated state. Still, The Kings Pathway is a major tourist attraction checking in at 1.8 miles long and 350 feet high.
1) MT. HUASHAN, CHINA
Are you crazy?! Mt. Hua is the most dangerous hike/climb in the world for several reasons. The most perilous part of the Huashan Trail is a 13 feet long, 1 foot wide plank path along a vertical cliff, where just one false step means falling in the abyss below. What a rush! you’ll feel like you’ve conquered the world once you complete this hike.
